University of Tennessee, Neyland Stadium South Renovations – Knoxville, TN
Cope Architecture, in association with MHM Architects and SLAM, is designing and managing the Neyland Stadium South Renovations project. The majority of the project is now complete through the design development phase, with portions of the project now in bidding and/or underway in construction. The first phase of the overall project was completed for the 2022 football season, being the new West Lower Bowl Seating, West Lower Bowl Club shell, and the new North Video Board and adjacent Plaza area and seating, along with the accessible and chairback seating at Concourse 2 South. This renovation project will continue over multiple phases and seasons, including work in the south, southeast, southwest and west portions of the stadium. The immediate next phase of the project will involve selective demolition of and structural modifications to the existing old south concrete structure, along with new Gate 10 toilets and the new Gate 11 ramp brick screening structure.
Following the Gates 10 and 11 improvements, work will begin on the future new Kitchen/ Commissary at the south end at field level, along with work leading to the new Loading Dock and Gate 4 Plaza. This will be followed by interior renovations to the East and West Skyboxes. Next, expansions to and renovations of the South Concourse 1 will occur, to include new restrooms and increased concession options, new entry structures and plaza areas in the southwest and southeast corners of the stadium, new elevators, ramps and exit stairs improving access to all concourses and development of new premium spaces.
Future phases will likely include improvements to the east and northeast concourses, a new entryway in the northeast corner, technology upgrades throughout the stadium, and the expansion of Concourses 2 and 3 in the south, including new concessions and new restrooms as well as wider Concourse pedestrian walkways.
